Tom Murphy
Vice President Operations, Commercial
Tom Murphy was named Vice President of Operations for Orlando, Commercial in 2019. He has more than 35 years of experience in the construction industry. Tom’s responsibilities include working with project executives, managers, and superintendents on the development of potential projects, project needs, budgets (PCAs and forecasting), schedules, and ensuring that all projects are consistent with policies and procedures. He is also responsible for providing advice and direction to his team members regarding their professional development. He continues to support the company vision, values, and strategic goals by building strong working relationships with our clients, contractors, and suppliers, helping to make Wharton-Smith the Construction Group of Choice. Tom joined Wharton-Smith as a Project Manager in 1999. He was promoted to Senior Project Manager in 2001, Project Executive in 2008, and Director of Operations in 2016. Prior to Wharton-Smith, Tom was a Superintendent for Turner Construction Company in Orlando, Florida. In addition to his professional experience, Tom has a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology and an associate degree in Civil Construction from the University of Central Florida. He is also a certified General Contractor. He serves on the Strategic Planning Committee and participates in a variety of development opportunities, including the Leadership Challenge; serves on the volunteer leadership board for the American Cancer Society; and is Co-chair for the ACS Survivors Golf Tournament. Tom lives with his wife of 32 years and has three daughters.
