Innovation Middle School is the first school of its kind for Orange County Public Schools representing an original prototype designed by architect Harvard Jolly. Developed on a 26-acre greenfield site, the 171,022-square-foot, three-story school was built to accommodate overcrowding at Lake Nona Middle School in Southeast Orlando. It is the first middle school to include a skywalk connecting the multi-story administration building and classroom building. The bridge overlooks the courtyard allowing for increased supervision during class changes and extracurricular activities.
The new, state-of-the-art facility incorporates 21st century learning environments such as collaborative learning spaces, wireless technology, flexible floor plans, daylighting and secured access. The three-story facility consists of classrooms, resource rooms, skills development labs, science labs, art, band, vocal, orchestra, gymnasium center, administration, dining room, kitchen, multi-purpose room and support spaces. Athletic facilities include softball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, track, long jump lanes, shot put and soccer/ football fields.
An extensive site package included new parking areas, parent loop, bus loop, exterior walkways and canopies, underground utilities, stormwater drainage system, landscaping, irrigation and site lighting. The school recently opened for the 2017-2018 school year.
