Miramar East Water Treatment Plant

Wharton-Smith served as design-builder for the City of Miramar’s first Design-Build Utility Project. The work at the 6 MGD water treatment plant consisted of four new production wells, one deep injection well, pretreatment equipment, nanofiltration equipment, post treatment facilities, chemical feed systems, clearwell, and major building modifications. This project included 3,700 LF of 20” water main pipe and 6,335 LF of force main that was installed with open-cut, horizontal directional drilling and jack and bore methods. This project was very successful for both Wharton-Smith and the City of Miramar. Not only do the residents have a better functioning water plant and distribution system, the project remained on schedule, on budget, maintained high quality throughout, and had zero safety incidents.
