Sanford Public Safety Building

The Sanford Public Safety Building is a two-story, 75,655 square-foot complex consisting of three buildings – a 44,000 square-foot Police Headquarters, five-bay Fire Department Headquarters and 850-square-foot Vehicular Museum Building joined together by a common secured corridor. Engineered and built to stand winds in excess of 150 mph, the structure also serves as an emergency operations center and hurricane shelter for the surrounding communities.

As construction manager for the high-profile project, Wharton-Smith worked diligently with the City of Sanford and neighboring residences and businesses within the Goldsboro community to keep everyone informed of possible disturbances throughout the project. The cutting-edge design and high-quality construction of the new complex has become a catalyst, inspiring new development and improvement within the historic neighborhood.
