Topping Out at Viera!

On Dec. 12, Orlando Commercial team members, subcontractors, vendors, and representatives from Brevard Public Schools celebrated the topping out of Viera Area Elementary School. See more pictures.

As workers entered what will be the school’s cafeteria they received t-shirts, raffle tickets for a chance to win more than $2,500 in prizes, and a feast from Valentino’s and Mama Rosa’s, which included salad, lasagna, New York style pizza, and meatballs.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Players Club

On Dec. 12, Wharton-Smith joined global engineering firm Mott MacDonald, St. Johns County representatives, and community members for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Players Club Water Reclamation Facility. See more pictures.

To improve the effluent quality of treated wastewater and produce public-access reclaimed water in Ponte Vedra, Florida, the St. Johns County Utilities Department wanted to consolidate wastewater flows from the Players Club, Inlet Beach, and Sawgrass wastewater treatment plants into one advanced facility.

Groundbreaking at AAA High School

Wharton-Smith team members joined Polk County School Board members, local government officials, and members of the community to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new high school. See more pictures.

The event opened with a prayer by Bishop Willie R. Mincey, Jr. and musical performances by the Ridge Community High School Marching Band and Girls Ensemble Chorus.

Slated to open in August 2021, the new three-story school will accommodate 2,500 students. The state-of-the-art prototype from SchenkelShultz Architecture will feature a three-story school on a 60-acre site with a performing arts center, administration offices, gymnasium, and stadium.

Groundbreaking at West Harrison Middle School

Wharton-Smith team members joined Harrison County School District leaders, elected officials, and Hardy Architect and Associates to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new West Harrison Middle School.

The project team is constructing a 118,600-square-foot school with 48 classrooms, administration area, band hall, gymnasium, and practice fields for softball, baseball, and football. The $26 million project will also include advanced technology in ICT classrooms, Smartboards in every classroom, and security features.

The school is scheduled to open August of 2021. It is estimated to have an initial enrollment of 750 students.…

Orlando Water Wins Eagle Award

Each year, the Central Florida Chapter of ABC recognizes and celebrates outstanding projects built by its members. The Chapter’s highest recognition is the Eagle Award.

This year, Orlando Water won an Eagle Award for Cypress West Water Reclamation Facility. On Oct. 26, team members were honored at ABC’s annual awards banquet at the Hyatt Regency Orlando.

Construction and Interior Design Students Win Big in National Competition

SANFORD, Fla. (Nov. 15, 2019) – Seminole State College of Florida students won big in Las Vegas this month, but it wasn’t by playing cards. Following a Southeast regional win, students from the construction and interior design programs placed first in the nation at the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) student competition, beating Oklahoma State University and NewSchool of Architecture & Design.
